Minimum wage
In Norway, all workers working on building and construction sites are entitled to a minimum wage which has been negotitated by the union. You are entitled to the following hourly minimum wage (before tax):
- Skilled worker: 159 NOK
- Unskilled worker with at least one year’s experience: 149 NOK
- Unskilled without trade experience: 143 NOK
- Workers below the age of 18 years: 96 NOK
These rates increase annually, after negotiations - and sometimes strikes, as in 2010 - between the trade union federation and the employers' organisations. These rates applies from the 1st of April 2011.
Normally, though, wages are higher than this minimum level. The average wage for building workers in 2010 was about 185 NOK, while building workers in key areas often earn more than 220 NOK an hour.
You are also entitled to holiday money. They constitute 10, 2% of your total gross wage for the last calendar year. It should be stated how much holiday money you have earned so far on each payslip. You are entitled to an annual holiday of four weeks and one day. Both holiday money and outstanding wages are to be paid on the last payday before your employment is terminated.
